A groundbreaking for Tulsa’s new Family Safety Center will likely be held in October, the nonprofit’s CEO said.

The facility is moving from its current downtown location to midtown and is expected to open in a little over a year after the groundbreaking, said CEO Suzann Stewart.

It will be located 2829 S. Sheridan Road East, and will share a campus with the Child Advocacy Network.

“This is a new paradigm shift in how we will be able to help victims of domestic abuse,” Stewart said.

The project involves a total cost of about $24 million for a 65,000-square-foot facility, and will bring additional investigators, attorneys, medical personnel, tribal services and case managers to local victims of domestic violence in Tulsa County. It also will feature a courtroom to host protective order hearings.
