What is your education?
I have a Bachelor of Architecture from Oklahoma State.
What attracted you to design, and when did you know that you wanted to make a career out of it?
From as early as I can remember, I have always had a passion for design. I loved looking at buildings and how they came together and as a kid would “design” spaces and draw them on paper.
What is your favorite type of project and why?
My passion has been in education design. My husband was a teacher for many years and it became a shared interest to be able to talk about how students and educators would use a space.
What advice do you have for people who would like to begin a career in architecture?
Architecture is more than just designing a building. It is understanding the needs of the client and how they want a space to look and feel. It is taking their vision, and making it a reality. If you can be a good listener and communicator, then that goes a long way in becoming an architect.
How do you keep your skills up to date with the newest trends and best practices?
I love being a part of organizations like A4LE and CSI. They provide extremely robust learning opportunities as well as opportunities to meet with others in the field or related fields.
Where’s your favorite vacation spot?
As a family, we love going all sorts of places. Each fall we go on a short camping trip to the lake and in the summer we love exploring new places.
